Carlo Ancelotti became the first manager to win four European Cups after Real Madrid’s team defeated Liverpool 10 in the Saturday final. Ancelotti’s all-European victories have been achieved ever since the tournament was renamed the Champions League in the year 1992.
Carlo Ancelotti led AC Milan to achieve victory in 2003 and 2007, and conquered Europe with Real in 2014 and now in 2022. The only two managers, apart from Ancelotti, who have won the titles of the three European Cups are Zinedine Zidane and Bob Paisley. Zidane has led Real to consecutive victories in 2016, 2017, and 2018, more than 30 years after Paisley delivered the trophy to Liverpool in 1977, 1978, and 1981.
Seventeen managers, including Brian Clough, Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, and Pep Guardiola, have won the European Cup twice. Ancelotti also won the European Cup as a Milan player in 1989 and 1990. He is one of the seven men who won the European Club Championship, both as a player and as a coach. Others include Guardiola, Zidane, Johan Cruyff, Miguel Muñoz, Frank Rijkaard and Giovanni Trapattoni.
