Diablo 4 and its upcoming expansion Vessel of Hatred are “developed to take advantage” of PS5 Pro, Blizzard has announced. It’s the first sign of Microsoft’s support for Sony’s mid-generation $700 upgrade.
Diablo 4 To Be Enhanced for PS5 Pro
Microsoft purchased all of Activision Blizzard’s franchises after acquiring the company for $69 billion in 2023 and has since sprinkled a number of those games into its subscription service, Game Pass. Diablo 4 is also coming to Game Pass, but it won’t include the Standard tier. Rod Fergusson, the head of Diablo, announced this support via Twitter but did not provide specifics about the update’s timeline or what enhancements players can expect on the PS5 Pro.
He expressed pride in his team for achieving this milestone, stating, “More details at a later date.” The PS5 Pro is set to launch on November 7, with the Vessel of Hatred expansion releasing next week. As per observant fans keeping a close eye on the PlayStation Store, more than 60 games are reportedly lined up for PS5 Pro enhancements. As part of their announcement, they once again noted that these titles will carry a PS5 Pro Enhanced label.
The PS5 Pro adds PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to support AI-driven upscaling, automatically improving the clarity of game images. Any PS5 Pro Enhanced titles, however, will take full advantage of the advanced capabilities of the console. While a number of Activision Blizzard games are now slated to get PS5 Pro-enhanced status when that feature goes live, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is another leading part of the series that many are whispering will get enhanced support too.
Notably, some of the second-wave technical leads behind major PlayStation games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part 2, and many other great stuff talked about how they were looking forward to the PS5 Pro during a recent preview event. In an interview with IGN, Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, expressed optimism that Space Marine 2 would benefit from the PS5 Pro’s capabilities through PSSR, though he did not confirm an Enhanced patch specifically for that game.
