Indian government requests BCCI to organize an India-World XI game to mark 75 years of Indian Independence

According to reports, the Indian government has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to hold a cricket match between India and the rest of the world on August 22 to mark the country’s 75th anniversary of independence.

Sources claim that the proposal has been sent by the Ministry of Culture, and that they are currently in discussions with representatives of the national cricket board in an effort to persuade both Indian and foreign cricketers to participate in a match as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign.

In response to a request for comment, the BCCI stated that the plan is still in the discussion phase and that securing the services of international cricket players will present several organizational and logistical issues.

A source said as quoted as saying by NDTV, “We have received a proposal from the government to organize a cricket match between India XI and World XI on August 22. For a rest of the world squad, we would need at least 13-14 international players and their availability is something that we need to check on.”

The insider also stated that there won’t be any issues acquiring the best Indian cricket players, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and others who would probably be rested for the Zimbabwe visit next month. But it will be extremely tough to sign international players who will be playing in the Caribbean Premier League and local cricket in England (CPL).

Aside from all of these issues, another one that the BCCI is attempting to resolve is whether or not the international players who will take part in this project must get financial compensation for their involvement. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi is purportedly where the game will take place, despite the fact that it has not yet been officially announced.
