DC Comics has made the announcement regarding Batman: The World- The Fight for Justice which is going to be released globally in September in hardcover. It is an anthology-based comic book “a series of tales chronicling Batman’s past and present” from a wide variety of international writers and/or artists.
It will contain 184 pages. Batman: The World will tell us the stories by creatives from fourteen different countries. The countries will include North America, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, China, Korea, and Japan. It has come to know that different international versions of the book will feature their own covered designed by the country’s local artist team. Here we present some of the artwork for Batman: The World’s North America edition, along with those for Mexico, China, Germany, France, and Brazil.
Batman: The World will embark its story with “Global City” from the writer’s desk named Brian Azzarello and artist named Lee Bermejo (Batman: Damned, Joker, Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, Batman/Deathblow). The story shows us the Caped Crusader as he “reflects on his time in Gotham, protecting his city and its inhabitants from all manner of threats. But when he looks beyond the bridges, alleys, and skyscrapers, the Dark Knight realizes that the call for justice knows no borders, as there are wrongs to be righted everywhere.”
This time the Global City will lay down a foundation for the other stories in the anthology including those by Mathieu Gabella (writer) and Thierry Martin (artist) — France; Paco Roca (writer/artist) — Spain; Alessandro Bilotta (writer) and Nicola Mari (artist) — Italy; Benjamin von Eckartsberg (writer) and Thomas von Kummant (artist) — Germany; Stepan Kopriva (writer) and Michal Suchánek (artist) — Czech Republic; Tomasz Kolodziejczak (writer) and Piotr Kowalski, Brad Simpson (artists) — Poland; Ertan Ergil (writer) and Ethem Onur Bilgiç (artist) — Turkey; Alberto Chimal (writer) and Rulo Valdés (artist) — Mexico; Carlos Estefan (writer) and Pedro Mauro (artist) — Brazil; Inpyo Jeon (writer), and Jae-Kwang Park and Kim Jung Gi (artists) — Korea); Xu Xiaodong and Lu Xiaotong (writers), and Qiu Kun and Yi Nan (artists) — China; and Kirill Kutuzov and Egor Prutov (writers) and Natalia Zaidova (artist) — Russia.
DC publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee has said “Batman has grown into a true pop culture icon, known the world over”. They further added “Batman: The World is DC’s way of showing fans everywhere that Batman is more than a character; Batman is a phenomenon that transcends languages and borders.”
Batman: The World- The fight for Justice is going to be published by DC Comics in hardcover worldwide on 14th September, Tuesday. It is just the day before Batman Day. The holiday will take place on the following Saturday i.e. 18th September.
