Barcelona has confirmed an agreement with the City Council for the club to play in the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium amidst the renovation of the Camp Nou. The temporary shift to Montjuic will take place amidst the 2023/24 season. This deal will upgrade planned improvements at the place, especially those linked to mobility and public transport, and the access stairs.
All the adaptations will have a cost of 7.2 million euros, out of which the club assumes 64%, while the 2.6m euros is will be assumed by the City Council. The remaining extras like the improvement in dthe ressing room, renting the venue ,and others will be completely paid by the Catalan club.
What is Barcelona’s Working Estimate for the Move?
Barcelona’s working estimate suggests, the move will have an investment somewhere between 15 and 20 million euros. The Deputy Mayor of the City Council, Jaume Collboni said,
“I think this is the best way to celebrate 30 years of the Olympic Games.”
He further added,
“We are honored and proud to welcome Barcelona. You are in the best possible place for Barcelona to come for a season or whatever the club decides. The City is on the side of all the clubs.”
The politician again assured that the temporary move will hardly have any effect on the remaining activities at the sporting complex and the adaptation will be above all in terms of the public service and mobility, to make Barcelona feel like home!
Joan Laporta also expressed his pleasure with the temporary relocation, which, as he reiterated, will be for the season of 2023/24.
Spendings and Losses
Laporta said, that the estimated cost for the move will be between 15m to 20m euros. He even stated that they are trying to fix a solution to manage the losses of not having any game at the Camp Nou. The club is also close to concluding some economic levers that were approved last week by the extraordinary assembly members, which are a must for the relocation. Lastly, the president also assured that the club is working on a rotation method to make up for the differences in capacity between the Camp Nou and the Olympic stadium.
