Barcelona crushed the Athletic Club by 4-0 on Sunday night, but the victory was accompanied by several injuries.
Barcelona has confirmed that Sergi Roberto has dislocated his left shoulder and will be facing another spell from the sidelines.
Roberto looked seriously ill when he left the pitch after being substituted late in the side’s 4-0 victory over Athletic. Barca has now confirmed the nature of his injury and he is expected to be out of action for several weeks.
First, Gabi was replaced with a hit in the first half. However, manager Xavi Hernandez insists the midfielder’s condition is nothing to worry about.
However, in the closing stages of the competition, one of the club’s captains, Sergi Roberto, had to be carried off the field. Barcelona has confirmed that the right-back, who is suffering from a dislocated left shoulder, will be out for the time being.
Barcelona’s statement regarding Roberto’s injury
In an official statement, Barcelona stated, “The first team player Sergi Roberto has a dislocated left shoulder. He is unavailable and his recovery will dictate his return.”
Roberto played well that night against Athletic, scoring an assist from Ousmane Dembele in the first half to make it 2-0.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Roberto’s injury is likely to keep him out of Blaugrana’s remaining fixtures ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
Reports say the 30-year-old’s World Cup chances are in jeopardy due to injuries. Spain coach Luis Enrique was reportedly considering calling up the La Masia graduate, but he could be sidelined with a dislocated shoulder.
In that case, Roberto’s return will see Barcelona face local rivals Espanyol after the FIFA World Cup on New Year’s Eve.
