Following the announcement of Pedri’s contract extension, the Blaugrana hierarchy is working on a number of other extensions, with Ansu Fati’s new contract including a one-billion-euro release clause.
The move is similar to Pedri’s, who signed a contract through 2026 that included a one-billion-euro release clause. In the meantime, Ousmane Dembele, Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto, and Gavi are anticipated to have their contracts renewed in the coming months.
Barcelona has been in talks with Ansu Fati for some time, and while the conversations are going well, the two parties have yet to strike an agreement.
Barcelona’s board of directors wants to safeguard Ansu in the same way they did Pedri by including a one-billion-euro release clause in his new contract. However, there are still other aspects of the transaction that need to be worked out, such as the contract’s lifespan.
Another major question is how Ansu will be compensated, as the club’s salary limitation limits the amount of money it can spend on players. And, because LaLiga does not allow this strategy, Barcelona cannot pay him a reduced wage in the first year of the contract and then gradually increase the compensation over time.
As a result, both parties are seeking creative ways to solve this problem. One of Joan Laporta’s main objectives is to ensure that the club has a core group of players with a lot of potentials who will eventually become the foundation of the Barcelona first team.
Ansu Fati is one of them, and possibly the most crucial, having been granted Lionel Messi’s No. 10 shirt.
