Larian Studios has announced its final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, Patch 8, and it is scheduled to arrive in 2025. This patch contains a whole slew of new features such as crossplay, a photo mode, and 12 new subclasses for existing classes. Larian had previously confirmed that Patch 8 would be the last significant update, as the studio intends to move on to new projects that won’t be in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. For all its flaws though, Larian isn’t giving up on modders, having released official mod tools last September — since then it has seen over 3000 and 70 million downloads overall.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 (2025): 12 New Subclasses, Crossplay, Photo Mode, and More!
Patch 8 brings us its largest feature, crossplay, which allows players to join multiplayer lobbies with friends across different platforms. This means it also includes full cross-platform progression, so wherever you’re playing, your progress is synced.
Additionally, 12 new subclasses are being added, each with unique abilities and enhancements. The Bard, for instance, gets the College of Glamour, which enables players to heal and command enemies. The Barbarian gets Path of Giants, which grants them significant Strength and damage capacity. The Cleric receives the Death Domain, focusing on necrotic damage and new cantrips, including the ability to explode nearby corpses.
Other subclasses include the Druid’s Circle of Stars, which bestows powers based upon constellations, and the Paladin’s Oath of the Crown, conferring abilities to protect allies while disrupting enemies. The Fighter’s Arcane Archer mixes mage with marksman, while the Monk’s Drunken Master eschews everything in favor of booze to boost prowess. The Ranger’s Swarmkeeper now commands deadly swarms in battle, and the Sorcerer’s Shadow Magic harnesses darkness to grow in strength as well.
Photo Mode is new, enabling players to capture in-game moments with parametric settings such as lens options, poses, stickers, and frames for a cinematic feel.
