Pakistani cricketer and the skipper of the national team, Babar Azam is a few steps away to break Indian cricketer Virat Kohli’s record of the fastest 3000 runs in T20 internationals. Virat Kohli took a total of 81 innings to surpass the 3000 run mark and Babar equaled his record.
Azam joined the elite club of T20I batters in the 3000-run club. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli lead the run tally in men’s T20Is with more than 3000 runs. Martin Guptill and Paul Stirling are the other members of this illustrious club.
It took Kohli 81 innings to get to 3000 runs in this format. The only thing in which Kohli is ahead is the strike rate. He’s the only batter in the Top 5 to have a batting average of more than 50. Kohli’s strike rates are at 138 and Babar Azam’s at 130. In recent times too, he has put out a lot of aggression in T20I.
Azam scored seven fours and three sixes, adding 48 runs with Iftikhar Ahmed (31) and 47 runs with Haider Ali for the third wicket (18).
Against T20I, Babar Azam has a chance to break Kohli’s record. If he can score 61 runs then he will shatter Kohli’s record easily.
The match between South Africa and Kohli will mark his 100th T20I inning. In Asia Cup 2022, he played his 100th T20I international match against Pakistan.
Suzie Bates, Meg Lanning, and Stafanie Taylor have amassed more than 3000 runs in women’s T20Is. Babar is now the ninth player in T20Is to reach the milestone.
Mohammad Hafeez has scored 2514 runs and Bismah Maroof mustered 2388 runs. Shoaib Malik and Rizwan have mustered more than 2000 T20I runs.
