    Australian cricketers donate money to the Sri Lankan children impacted by the economic crisis

    The Australian team recently completed its tour to Sri Lanka of the white and red ball series. The Australian team donated a huge amount to support the children and their families who have been impacted by the economic crisis. Pat Cummins, UNICEF Australia’s chief ambassador along with Aaron Finch and other team members donated $45,000 for making an impact.

    In the recently concluded tour of Australia to Sri Lanka, the team won the T20 series but got defeated in the ODI series. The test series was a draw but the crisis grabbed the eyeballs of both teams.

    The economic crisis has raised the price of essential products like food, petroleum, medicines, clothing, etc.

    “It was very clear to us how much day-to-day life for Sri Lankans is being impacted. When the team saw what was happening it was an easy decision to donate our prize money to UNICEF, who have been in Sri Lanka for more than 50 years supporting the needs of children and families,”- Australian Test captain Pat Cummins said

    Aaron Finch stated that the island nation had welcomed the Australian team with all warmth and expects to “lift their spirits in some small way” by making this donation.

    “Last year Australian cricketers got behind India in its time of crisis during the peak of the COVID-19 Delta wave and we thank them for again giving generously to help Sri Lankans impacted by the current crisis,” UNICEF Australia CEO Tony Stuart said.

    This is not the first time that the Australian team had come forward to help a nation in such a crisis. In 2021. captain Pat Cummins and Cricket Australia donated $50,000 for oxygen supplies during India’s Covid 19 crisis. The second wave of Covid also postpones the schedule of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
