The PS5-exclusive platformer took home awards in Animation, Audio Achievement, Family Game, and Game Design categories, too, cementing its title as one of the year’s most highly praised releases. Astro Bot was not Sony’s only success. The live-service multiplayer shooter Helldivers 2 also cleaned up, taking BAFTAs for Best Multiplayer and Best Music. These two victories really showcased PlayStation’s broad dominance of multiple genres this year.
Another big winner was indie horror game Still Wakes the Deep, which took home three awards. Those nominations included Best New Intellectual Property, as well as Leading and Supporting Performance awards, in recognition of the game’s standout acting talent. Meanwhile, Balatro, a breakout indie roguelike card game, won Best Debut Game to continue its 2024 critical momentum.
Metaphor: ReFantazio, a top-rated RPG of the year, won Best Narrative. Also picking up the award for Technical Achievement was Xbox and PC-exclusive Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, which further built on its reputation for stunning visuals and audio. Legendary composer Yoko Shimomura received this year’s BAFTA Fellowship, the award’s highest individual honor, for her extensive work in video game music.
