Following the disappointment of Star Wars Outlaws, which also released without any plans for Steam, Ubisoft seems to have moved away from its previous strategy around Epic’s lack of competition with PC exclusivity and is now planning simultaneous releases on Steam. Outlaws is coming to Steam on July 21, 2023.

Mirage takes a more focussed approach to gameplay compared to the sprawling worlds of recent entries like Valhalla and Odyssey.
Ubisoft said the player count for Mirage was “in line” with both Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey when those games launched. The game is also Ubisoft’s best-selling new-gen launch title in terms of units sold.
Mirage going live on Steam marks another low point for Ubisoft during a difficult year, which saw underwhelming performance from both XDefiant, a competitor to Call of Duty, and the previously mentioned Star Wars Outlaws. Ubisoft has delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows to 2025 after the underperformance of Outlaws, which was a straw that broke the back for its staff preparing to strike later this month.
In a recent message to investors, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot noted that the company’s “second quarter fell short of expectations” and promised to initiate a review to enhance execution. He also touched on the ongoing cultural discussions within the company, which have been exacerbated by Star Wars Outlaws and the upcoming Shadows title.
Last week, reports surfaced indicating that the Guillemot family and major shareholder Tencent are considering a partnership to take Ubisoft private after a significant decline in its share price.
