The debut of Apple’s second-generation AirPods Pro is finally approaching; it is anticipated to occur later this year. The second-generation AirPods Pro will probably adopt several capabilities that were added to the standard AirPods last year in addition to brand-new ones.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new AirPods Pro will include a “substantially enhanced” wireless chip in comparison to the H1 chip in the first-generation AirPods Pro. Given the enhancements, the new chip might be called a “H2 chip.”

Kuo didn’t go into detail about the advantages the new chip would bring, but since the H1 chip controls audio-related operations, the upgraded chip in the second-generation AirPods Pro could lead to improvements in sound quality, latency, active noise cancellation, Transparency mode, features powered by Siri, and more.

Although there haven’t been any confirmed speculations about the new AirPods Pro having a longer battery life, it’s realistic to anticipate advancements in this area given that the first AirPods Pro was released almost three years ago.

Compared to the current AirPods Pro, Apple’s third-generation standard AirPods, which were released last year, offer up to six hours of listening time per charge. The AirPods Pro have a battery life of up to five hours per charge, which is still less than the third-generation AirPods and even with active noise cancelling and Transparency mode disabled.

According to Kuo, the charging case for the upcoming Apple AirPods Pro will have the ability to make a sound, making it simpler to find the case when it is misplaced. The Find My app on an iPhone already allows for the tracking of AirPods Pro, but the charging case is soundless.

It’s also likely that the new AirPods Pro charging case, like the charging case for the third-generation AirPods, will be IPX4-rated for water and perspiration resistance. Only the AirPods Pro earphones are currently water resistant, which is not the case.

A skin-detect sensor for more precise in-ear detection in comparison to the twin optical sensors in the original AirPods Pro is yet another feature that the next AirPods Pro will probably take from the third-generation AirPods.

The second-generation AirPods Pro will have “new motion sensors with a focus on fitness tracking,” according to a May 2021 article by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Debby Wu, but no other information was provided.

It’s likely that upgrades to the motion-detecting accelerometer found in AirPods Pro will enable certain fitness tracking features, but it’s unclear what Apple’s specific plans are at this time. In a perhaps related development, iOS 16 enables the usage of the Fitness app on an iPhone without an Apple Watch.

For the new AirPods Pro, Apple tried a more compact design in 2020 that did away with the stems underneath the earbuds, much like Beats Studio Buds. This information was published by Gurman and Wu. The second-generation AirPods Pro, according to more recent speculations, won’t have any significant modifications to the device’s external appearance.

On October 28, 2019, an Apple Newsroom press release served as the product’s introduction, and two days later, they went on sale. By the end of 2022, the redesigned AirPods Pro are anticipated to be available, with September or October being the most likely months for the arrival of the headphones. Although they are routinely discounted by retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, AirPods Pro are now available in the US for $249.
