The release of Apex Legends Season 14: Hunted is quickly approaching. We already have a good idea of what to expect from the forthcoming season thanks to the launch video, but Vantage, Season 14’s first legend, deserves special attention.
Vantage, who was first introduced in March 2022 after a large leak, is a proficient sniper and a great hunter who was raised alone on Pàgos, a block of ice, a barren planet in the Fringe Worlds system. A group of planets known as The Fringe Worlds are found on the very border of the Outlands and are not a part of Syndicate Space. Due to her strange upbringing, Vantage stands out as a character in both gameplay and backstory.
The skills of Vantage and the other future legends were uploaded online, although at the time it wasn’t known how reliable the information in the leak from March was. Although Vantage’s skills haven’t been officially confirmed, additional leaks and, more recently, the release of the Season 14 launch trailer seem to indicate that Vantage’s abilities are essentially the same as those that were revealed in the initial leak.
Vantage employs a specially designed sniper rifle that analyses foes and increases the damage for Vantage and her team members. Damage for Vantage rises with further hits. When attacking foes who have been scanned with Mark to Kill, her entire squad receives a 15% damage bonus.
In the Season 14 premiere trailer, Vantage is seen using all three of these skills. She is shown rocket-boosting to Echo, spotting other legends while ADSing, and pulling out a special sniper rifle—possibly the one associated with her Ultimate skill.
Vantage, whose real name is Xiomara “Mara” Contrares, lived with just one rule while growing up: survive. While she has succeeded in doing so thus far, she is not always great at adhering to other restrictions. In her episode of Stories from the Outlands, she intentionally disobeyed her mother’s desires by exploring the sunken cargo ship G.D.S. Vantage. As a result, Xiomara comes dangerously close to dying, and her mother Xenia, a wanted felon from Gaea, is apprehended by the police. Even though it is obvious that Xiomara feels terrible about the role she played in her mother’s detention, it is unclear whether or not she has learned her lesson.
She resolutely refuses to leave during her opening Apex Games match despite Fuse’s protests about “a pup” competing in the Games. Vantage’s age is unknown, but Fuse’s statements suggest she might be among the legend squad’s youngest members. However, he could also be alluding to Vantage’s youth and lack of life experience as a result of her solitary upbringing.
She wins her first Apex match, but it doesn’t necessarily mean she has what it takes to become a legend. She did use her abilities effectively in the competition, but even if she hadn’t, Xiomara would have still won because the match was fixed using the same algorithm that Crypto uncovered in his episode of Stories from the Outlands.
When the G.D.S. Vantage, a cargo ship taking inmates to a detention center, crashed, Xiomara’s mother, Xenia, was the only survivor. This mysterious woman spent years lying to her daughter about every aspect of her life, but Vantage eventually discovered the truth.
Some flashbacks involving Vantage’s encounters with her mother may be seen in the debut trailer. She appears prepared to fight a whole prison’s worth of Syndicate guards armed just with a sharp stick in one of them, carrying a shoddily made shiv. The meeting ends when Xenia pulls the homemade weapon out of Vantage’s daughter’s hands before she can act foolishly.
However, it’s noteworthy to note that during the countdown to the launch trailer’s release (the same one that revealed the Games are actively being rigged), two prison guards are having a chat when a prison riot breaks out. Of course, Mad Maggie is the most likely offender, but it’s also plausible that she’s not acting alone. While the dialogue between the guards in the pre-trailer countdown may occur after Vantage’s mother has obtained a weapon, the scene in which Vantage’s mother seizes the shiv is a flashback. This implies that either Maggie, Xenia, or possibly Xenia herself may have started the commotion that causes the guards’ dialogue to be cut off. Whatever the case, Xenia is just as fascinating as her daughter Vantage, which is difficult to dispute.
