AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT & 9070 Benchmarks Leak, Performance Revealed

The first leaked benchmarks for AMD’s RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 GPUs have appeared on Geekbench, offering insights into their performance and specifications. Ahead of the formal announcement later this month, AMD will showcase its upcoming RDNA 4 GPU architecture in early March. As we await the reviews, these early benchmarks give an idea of how the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 compete.

The leak confirms the specs for both GPUs too. The RX 9070 XT pairs with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory and has 64 compute units (4096 stream processors) at a peak clock speed of up to 2570 MHz. The Radeon RX 9070, on the other hand, has 56 compute units (3584 stream processors), a peak frequency of 2210 MHz, and now features the same 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM.

For reference, the Radeon RX 9070 XT ran up a score of 157,395 in Vulkan and 179,178 in OpenCL, while the Radeon RX 9070 managed 151,520 and 140,842 in the same tests, respectively. This points to RX 9070 XT delivering performance to the level of Radeon RX 7900 GRE in Vulkan, and RX 9070 being equivalent to Radeon RX 7800 XT. The RX 9070 XT edges out the RX 7900 XT in OpenCL tests by a few points, and the non-XT variant isn’t far behind the RX 7800 XT, either.

It should deliver better performance and efficiency, with a major emphasis on improved ray tracing and AI/ML capabilities that will come into play for some tech like FSR4, using the new, more capable 3D graphics engines. In the even higher tier ranges, they will most likely be competitive and AMD seems to be aiming to be the value leader for these types of GPUs for gamers who want high-value graphics cards. With a launch just weeks away, these early benchmarks offer a preview of the performance we can anticipate from AMD’s RDNA 4 lineup, paving the way for an interesting duel in the GPU market.
