Amazon and Games Workshop have unveiled new information about their upcoming episode of Secret Level based on Warhammer 40,000, confirming that it serves as a sequel to the recently released Space Marine 2. Secret Level is an animated anthology series that features 15 standalone episodes — one for each game tale. The show hails from some of the minds behind Netflix’s animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots, it is set to premiere on Prime Video on December 10.
More About the Secret Level: Warhammer 40,0000
In last night’s post from Warhammer Community, Games Workshop revealed that Dave Wilson — executive producer and supervising director for the film — was responsible for bringing one of the first animations set in a universe to life with the original Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War real-time strategy game iconic opening cinematography. Now, this two-decade-old cinematic is still a fan favorite and often referred to as one of the best animations made or set in Warhammer 40,000.
A key point is the link between both Secret Level’s Warhammer 40,000 episode and Saber Interactive’s upcoming blockbuster Space Marine 2. Actor Clive Standen will take on the lead role of Lieutenant Titus, as confirmed by Games Workshop. “Players of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will recognize the iconic figure of Lieutenant Titus from the teaser trailer released in August,” Games Workshop stated. “It has now been confirmed that the indomitable Clive Standen is returning to voice Titus in this new animation.”
Games Workshop also reiterated that this Secret Level episode is “a Space Marine 2 sequel,” and it sounds as though the show picks up directly after the ending of its campaign. Closing out Space Marine 2, Titus finds salvation in teaming up with Ultramarine Chapter Master Marneus Calgar to put down the forces of Chaos. After the release of this trailer, which is likely to set up the Secret Level episode (based on who appears in it and what happens next), Calgar assigns Titus a mysterious mission after wrapping him with an Imperial Laurel-adorned helmet.
Secret Level will hit prime video on December 10, with episodes inspired in part by Sony’s Concord as well as Epic’s Unreal tournament. The Warhammer 40,000 episode is part of the initial launch alongside seven others, with the remaining episodes set to release a week later on December 17. Regarding the continuation of the Space Marine 2 story in video game format, Saber Interactive has been tight-lipped about potential campaign DLC but has indicated that ideas for a third installment are already in the works.
