A Greek footballer died on the pitch after suffering a heart arrest during a match in which there was no defibrillator or ambulance present. The guy, who was 21 years old, was playing for Ilioupoli, a Greek third-tier side, when tragedy struck five minutes into the game.
Alexandros Lampis Suffering Cardiac Arrest
Alexandros Lampis collapsed during a match at the First Municipal Stadium on Wednesday. The stadium is located in a south-eastern suburb of Athens, yet the ambulance did not arrive for another 20 minutes, according to The Sun, and there was no way to resuscitate the injured player on the spot.
Only eight months ago, the world witnessed in horror as Christian Eriksen collapsed while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020, suffering from a severe heart attack.
Morten Boesen, Denmark’s team doctor, stated that the 29-year-old had gone into cardiac arrest on the pitch and was brought back by a combination of CPR and an electric shock from a defibrillator in that episode.
Eriksen’s life was saved, and he is now preparing to make a sensational comeback to the Premier League with Brentford. After having a defibrillator placed in his body to assist control his heart rate, the Danish midfielder has been cleared to return to professional football.
Aftermath of Eriksen’s Death
Since Eriksen’s demise, a slew of high-profile events involving players has rocked the sport. Sergio Aguero was forced to retire after suffering chest issues while playing for Barcelona, and Victor Lindelof and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were also in danger.

Following the terrible occurrence in Athens, the match versus Ermionida was called off. On the club’s website, Ilioupoli wrote: ‘Our Aleko, our friend, our brother, you left so unjustly. The whole team, the whole city is mourning today.”
