Chennai Super Kings register their 4th IPL victory on Sunday after defeating KKR in 2021 IPL final by 27 runs. It was a good game to see at the Dubai International Stadium where CSK picked up the victory over the Knights with ease. It was a sensational comeback by the Daddy’s army this season as last year they were the first team to get knocked out of the tournament. After 2010, 2011, and 2018, CSK becomes the champion of the Incredible Premier League in 2021.
The match
Initially, KKR won the toss, and Captain Eoin Morgan asked CSK to bat first. By seeing CSK’s batting in the first half, it seemed like they weren’t regretting getting the opportunity to bat first. Both the openers including Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis gave a good start.
Though KKR could have an early breakthrough Dinesh Karthik missed the catch as well the missed the opportunity to stump Du Plessis in the same ball which Shakib bowled. In answer, the South African legend scored 86 from 59 balls, with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Also, Gaikwad’s 32 of 27, Moeen Ali’s 37 of 20, and Robin Uthappa’s speedy 31 of 15 helped CSK to reach a winning total of 192 with the loss of 3 wickets.
In reply, KKR batters also started well, with both the openers scoring a half-century. Venkatesh Iyer scored 50 of 32 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes, and Shubhman Gill scored 51 of 43 with 6 fours. After them no one could stand for long, consequently, the match slipped from KKR’s hand.
Rahul Tripathi’s hamstring injury during KKR’s fielding was a major factor behind their loss, as he came to bat at number 8, and got out soon, as he tried to hit long, as the required run rate was over 14. Shivam Mavi and Lockie Fergusson fought their level best till the last but KKR was out of the match then.
CSK’s 4th Victory in 8 Finals
With this win, CSK registers their 4th win in their 8th appearance in the IPL finals having a win percentage record of 50% in the showdown. Faf du Plessis was given the man of the match award for his brilliant innings.
