A cricketer’s life is prone to injuries at some point in his career. They have to be careful while they play the game since one major injury can affect their personal and professional life. Players use shields or other protection to minimize the risk margin as much as possible. In this article, let’s have a look at 4 times when cricketers wore a field shield.
1. Warren Barnes in Super Smash T20 championship
Warren Barnes was the first cricketer to set the trend when he, along with Rob Walters designed a protective gear for the bowlers to wear. He experimented with it during a Super Smash T20 championship match against the Northern Knights in 2017. The shield didn’t affect his performance as he picked 3 wickets in the game which increased his confidence being in a danger-free zone.
2. Andrew Ellis while playing for Canterbury
While representing Ellis while playing for Canterbury, was hit on his head by Auckland’s Jeet Raval and suffered a major injury. The ball struck his head and bounced off to go for a six. In Canterbury’s next season, he was seen wearing a helmet to avoid any kind of mishap.
