The football world is in heavy grief ever since the demise of the icon Pele, this Thursday. Arguably, the greatest soccer player ever, there are few mysteries surrounding him. One of such interesting mystery is his closed locker in Santos’s dressing room, which stays intact to this day, even after so many years since he last appeared for the Brazilian club.
The mystery on Santos’s closet of Pele
The closet is an integral part of the Santos dressing room, so intense that previous players and coaches also commented on it.
Gustavo Leal said,
“I was in Santos’ dressing room, and nobody else occupied the place that Pele did. He has a closed closet from when he played the last game for the club. He put some things in, closed it, and said you can only open it when I’m no longer with you.”
The closet can now be unlocked
After Pele’s death, there’ll be a considerable grieving period in Brazil and in the entire football world. If we’re to consider what Leal said, the Santos’ dressing room closed locker can now be opened. It’s still unclear what the club will decide and if they’ll sanction the process, with many saying it could become a permanent shrine to the football icon. Speculations are also on regarding what’s there behind the closed locker.
Some are saying it might have been the last boots he wore in the final Santos game and a seeming message of gratitude to the club where he spent his complete professional career virtually.
The club is yet to disclose any decision on this matter. The locker has been closed for more than 40 years now, and making a decision on this matter will surely take up some time on their part.
