USMNT confirms its participation in Copa America 2024 through captain Tyler Adams

What has been an open secret so far has now been finally confirmed. The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) will be a part of the 2024 Copa America. In an NBC interview, their captain Tyler Adams confirmed that they’ll be playing at the Conmebol tournament in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.

USMNT is willing to take up preparation tournaments

The joint hosts of the 2026 World Cup are the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Hence, they’ll not be in the CONCACAF qualifiers, and that’s why they are looking for alternatives to keep their concerned national teams in the right form and shape to give good competition.

The USMNT’s team captain said,

“One of the things we lacked before this first World Cup is that it took us a long time to get our best players together on the field and in camp. Some of us got injured, some of us weren’t healthy, and we missed the opportunity to maximize our time together.”

The Leeds United player further continued,

We have the CONCACAF Nations League; we’re going to have the opportunity to play in the Copa America, which will be huge for us. If you can get your guys healthy in tournaments like that, you gain experience, and hopefully, some younger guys are coming through at this point.

Is there any official confirmation?

CONMEBOL hasn’t given any official confirmation yet regarding the participation of Canada, Mexico, and the United States in the next Copa America in 2024. But the three respective countries are already considering the fact that they can keep up with the rhythm of play and have the opportunity to test themselves against opponents of a higher level than the CONCACAF nations.
