IPL 2023 auction: Top 10 most expensive buys

Unlike the IPL 2022 mega auction, the IPL 2023 auction was a one-day affair but it was nothing less than a gala event. It saw franchises fighting with each other to buy some of the best players around the world. Sam Curran was the most expensive buy but notable names like Daryl Mitchell, Adam Milne and Chris Jordan remained unsold.

Here are ten players who were sold at the highest prices.

1. Sam Curran sold to Punjab Kings at Rs.18.50 Crore

Sam Curran was not only the most expensive player of the IPL 2023 auction but became the costliest player in the history of IPL. he was bought by Punjab Kings for a whopping amount of Rs.18.5 Crore. He showed his spectacular performance in T20 World Cup 2022, which built the craze around him. He started his IPl journey in 2019 but was released the very next year.

2. Cameron Green was sold to Mumbai Indians at Rs. 17.50 Crore

Green made history at the IPL auction as he got into Mumbai Indians with a lump sum amount of Rs. 17.50 crore. It is the most expensive IPL deal paid to an Australian ever. MI won him after a tough bidding war with Delhi Capitals. Green will join his countrymen Tim David and Jason Behrendorff in the team.

3. Ben Stokes was sold to Chennai Super Kings at Rs.16.25 Crore

Though CSK failed to acquire their former player Sam Curran they bagged Ben Stokes for Rs.16.25 crore. There have been speculations if Ben Stokes will replace MS Dhoni as a skipper. In a fierce bidding war, CSK competed against four other teams to sign Stokes.

4. Nicholas Pooran sold to Lucknow Super Giants for Rs.16 Crore

Lucknow Super Giants bought the Trinidadian cricketer for Rs. 16 crores unexpectedly. His form in the past few seasons of IPL wasn’t up to the mark. However, he has a lot of potential that made LSG interested in his services.

5. Harry Brook sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 13.25 Crore

Harry Brook will be making his debut in IPL 2023 but the amount of interest different franchises had for him, tells about his talent. SRH bought him for rs.13.25 crores. He revealed that he was with his family when the news came in and his grandmother started crying hearing the news.

6. Mayank Agarwal sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 8.25 Crore

SunRisers Hyderabad spends 8.25 crore to acquire Mayank Agarwal in IPL mini-auction. Mayank has been one of the most successful Indian openers in IPL in the last few years before he got released by Punjab Kings in 2022 after having a poor show.

7. Shivam Mavi sold to Gujarat Titans for Rs. 6 Crore

Shivam Mavi kept his base price at Rs. 47 lakhs and within a few minutes, it touched the Crore mark. CSK and KKR have been in the bidding war to acquire him but ultimately, it was GT that signed him for Rs. 6 crore.

8. Jason Holder sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 5.75 Crore

Rajasthan Royals shelled out Rs. 5.75 crores to get Jason Holder in the team. His base price started from Rs.2 crore in the auction. He’s a bowling all-rounder and bats right-handed having a good share of experience in the IPL.

9. Mukesh Kumar sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs. 5.5 Crore

Delhi Capitals grabbed West Bengal bowler Mukesh Kumar for Rs. 5.5 crore. it has been the most expensive buy of Delhi Capitals. Looking back on his journey, he made to the Bengal cricket team through the Vision 2020 trials conducted in 2014 under Ranade Bose, a former Indian pacer. Hopefully, he can make a good impression in the league.

10. Heinrich Klaasen sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for 5.25 Crores

The South African cricketer was bought by SRH during for Rs. 5.25 crores in crore after placing his base price as Rs. 1 crore. He has a good experience in IPL as well as played several games for the national team. Previously, he played for Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
