Most expensive buys of IPL 2023 mini-auction

The Indian Premiere League’s mini auction held in Kochi, on December 23, came to an end. Out of 991 players, only 405 players (domestic and international) were shortlisted. Players like Sam Curran, Cameron Green, and Mayank Agarwal made a lot of hype. In this article, let’s have a look at the most expensive buys of the IPL 2023 mini-auction

1. Sam Curran was sold to Punjab Kings for Rs. 18.50 crore

English player Sam Curran broke Chris Morris’s record and became the most expensive buy at an IPL Auction. Previously, Morris was bought for INR 16.25 Crore, and Sam Curran got picked by PBKS for Rs. 18.50 Crore. It’s even more than retained players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. In 2019, the same franchise bought him for a 7.2 Crore bid.

2. Cameron Green was sold to Mumbai Indians for Rs. 17.50 crore

Cameron Green was snapped by Mumbai Indians for a huge amount of Rs,17.5 crores which made him the second costliest player. To acquire him, MI had tough competition with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, but in the end, MI placed the highest bid.

3. Ben Stokes was sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs. 16.35 crore

Stokes skipped last year’s IPL and was released by Rajasthan Royals. He has a mixed record in IPL but many believe he has the potential to become the skipper after MS Dhoni retires. He was picked for 16.35 crores. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants had put up an intense bidding war, but it was CSK that acquired him.

4. Nicholas Pooran was sold to Lucknow Super Giants for 16 crore

West Indies cricketer Nicholas Pooran was picked by Lucknow Super Giants for a whopping amount of Rs. 16 crores in IPL 2023 mini-auction. There was heavy bidding between LSG. RR and DC and at last, the former got him. Both RR and DC wanted to go for Pooran and the bid went over 8 crores. LSG joined them at 7.5 crores.

5. Harry Brook was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 13.25 crore

Brook had the third-highest winning offer for an English player in this auction, after all-rounders Sam Curran (Rs 18.25cr) and Ben Stokes, became the player that SRH spent the most money on (Rs 16.25cr). Brook was awarded the ‘Man of the Series’ after his spectacular performance in the seven-match T20I series against the Asian giants in September-October.
