FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: Australia beat Denmark 1-0 to qualify for the Round of 16

In a historic day for World Football, Australia advanced to qualify for the round of 16, only the second time in their Football World Cup history. They defeated Denmark 1-0.

Australia advanced to the round of 16

The Al Janoub Stadium in AI, Qatar witnessed something staggering this day after Australia shocked Denmark 1-0 and got a step ahead to enter the knockouts. They now stand with three points in Group D and even a draw in their last game can take them to the round of 16. The equation got difficult for Denmark because they have only one point in their pocket.

Denmark, in their must-win game, tried doing good while developing a sound wave of midfield passing and taking the regular long balls over the top, too. But unfortunately, the goal didn’t come.

The Aussies are sitting strong in second place in Group D and the marvelous Danish attack that fired 30 goals in qualifying, didn’t spark in Qatar. Their only goal came from the defender Andreas Christensen when they lost 2-1 to France.

Graham Arnold, the Australian coach is very ecstatic over his team’s victory. He said,

“I’m so proud. There was a short turnaround but the boys’ effort was incredible. They come in with a great mindset. We’ve been working on this for the last four years: the belief, energy, and focus. I could see it in their eyes. They were ready tonight.”

On the other hand, the North African nation, Tunisia, shocked the football world after beating the world champions France 1-0. They also became the first team to beat them at the World Cup group stage since 2010.

The Qatar World Cup seems to be full of surprises and some terrific performances. Stay tuned to find out what unfolds next!
