Canada’s first ever World Cup goal is scored by Alphonso Davies

Canada’s World Cup dearth is finally over. After playing five games, the North American side scored their first ever goal in World Cup history. The scorer is none but the one and only Alphonso Davies. He bombed into the box followed by a strong header into the corner; that created history for his team. It’s also the earliest goal in the Qatar World Cup.

Canada’s World Cup goal drought ends with Davies’s magic

In the CONCACAF qualifiers, the Bayern Munich star Davies, has been a star performer for his national side. In the qualifiers, they surprised Mexico and the United States to finish at the top spot. Their entry in the Qatar World Cup 2022 was with high expectations. Despite their defeat against Belgium 0-1, they played brilliant football in the match.

Davies’s terrific header came at the 68th seconds of the match, which is the 15th fastest goal in World Cup history ever. It stands out to be a great positive for the Canadian side.

Overall, Canada has had four games in World Cup history, all of which has concluded with a defeat. Their first appearance in the tournament was in ’86 Mexico World Cup, where they had lost all the three matches. The teams that defeated them were France, Soviet Union and Hungary. Then, the fourth loss came in this tournament against Belgium on the first day of this year’s World Cup.
