The Indian premiere League( IPL) franchises will be expanding to the American continent to USA Major League by next year. Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders have already invested a lot in MLC and more Indian teams are ready to join him in Major League Cricket. Their involvement is expected to transform the competition and bring the world’s top-notch cricketers to the United States of America.
As per reports, MLC’s opening is supposed to take place on July 13, 2023, at Major League Cricket venue, Grand Prairie Stadium, in Grand Prairie, TX. The league will be hosting 19 matches in just 18 days and the first MLC championship final will be taking place on July 30, 2023.
The six teams participating in the league are:
- San Francisco
- Los Angeles
- Washington D.C.
- New York City
Each franchise will feature international stars and the best players from United States who’ll play this league in T20 format.
The ownership structure hasn’t been finalized yet but as per reports, several franchises are set to acquire the rights of these franchises. The final announcement will be taking place from 2023 and the players draft will take place in March.
Grand Prairie Stadium, will have a permanent capacity of 7,200 spectators for cricket at a cost of $20 million. With a capacity of more than 15,000 for big events, the facility will have 1,000 clubs and premium seats. It’s expected that the stadium will be hosting ICC 2024 men’s World Cup. The tournament is going to be co-hosted by West Indies and the United States.
The Knight Riders Group (KRG), is a founding investor in MLC. They are also the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL, and Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL.
In April 2022, the Major League Cricket (MLC) along with Kolkata Knight Riders Group and the City of Irvine, approved rge exclusive negotiating agreement (ENA) to lease the negotiations and design approvals that will build a world-class cricket venue on a 15-acre parcel at the Great Park.
