Robert Lewandowski to miss Espanyol, Atletico, Getafe: three-game ban for him, four for Pique

A three-game ban on Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has been imposed with a three-game ban concerning the events in the Blaugrana’s game against Osasuna. The striker was sent off and he kept on arguing continuously with the referee afterward.

Robert Lewandowski’s disrespectful attitude toward the referee earns a three game ban

His attitude was stated to be disrespectful and showing disdain for the referees, hence the longer ban than generally issued for double charges. Gerard Pique, a substitute, was sent off too for his protests and has been imposed with a four-game ban.

It has to be highly symbolic as the defender has declared his retirement.

Robert Lewandowski was alleged to have thrown several distasteful comments and gestures indicating the referee. He has claimed that the video footage is misleading and that the part where touches his nose was not intended toward referee Gil Manzano.

He’ll miss important matches

The imposition in Pique’s case might be meaningless now as he has already announced his retirement earlier. But Lewandowski’s ban would mean a lot to the club. It means the star No.9 will miss important LaLiga Santander games against Espanol, Atletico Madrid, and Getafe after the World Cup.

He’ll be playing in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final against Betis, which is tenured between the trip to the Metropolitano and the visit of Getafe.

Lewandowski’s absence from the team might be a great deal for Barcelona. How they handle the crucial games in his absence will be something the fans will be eager to see. They’ll be super eager to see their favorite star getting back on the field with his spark soon after the ban.
