Virat Kohli is back, hits his 71st international century and maiden T20I century

Virat Kohli finally ended his century drought after 1020 days by scoring 122 runs in 61 balls against Afghanistan. He played in the top order and completed his 71st international and maiden T20I hundred. His 100 came in 51 balls.

He equalled Ricky Ponting’s record of 71 international centuries and he’s only behind Sachin Tendulkar in this list. Rohit Sharma the skipper of Indian team was on rest today and in his place, stand-in skipper KL Rahul and Virat Kohli had an opening partnership of 119 runs off 76 deliveries.

KL Rahul played his most confident knock after coming back from the injury. Virat finally came back to his vintage form as he played the spinners and even smash a unique sweep shot. It came in the sixth over from Mujeeb Ur Rehman. In the last five overs, Virat did hit a lot of boundaries. He hits a six in the next ball and got his hundred with a very fine pull shot off pacer Fareed Ahmed.

The crowd of the stadium went crazy as Virat reached his century, he took his helmet off and kissed his necklace as a part of his celebration. He ended the first innings by hitting two sixes and a four off Fazalhaq Farooqi and India posted a massive total of 212 runs.

“I feel very blessed, very grateful right now. Last two and a half years have taught me a lot. I’m going to turn 34 in November, so celebrations [on getting to landmarks] are all [a thing of] the past. I have put a lot of things in perspective and, actually, I was a bit shocked because this was the format I least expected a century to come in any time soon, but it’s all God’s blessings. I have been working hard and this was just a moment which was very special for me and the team as well.“- Virat Kohli said
