Commonwealth Games 2022: Indian Medal Winners till now

India seems to have won 16 medals at Birmingham 2022, which includes 5 gold, 6 silver, and 5 bronze medals.

About 200 Indian athletes will compete for medals in 16 different sports at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August.

In the final event on the Gold Coast in 2018, Indian athletes won a total of 66 medals (26 gold, 20 silver, and 20 bronze), finishing third overall, followed by Australia and England.

In fact, 135 of India’s 503 Commonwealth Games medals of CWG 2022 have come in shooting as compared to any of the other sports. This includes the 30 medals won by Indian shooters at New Delhi CWG 2010 – where India had the most successful Commonwealth Games in its history, winning a total of 101 medals.

Tokyo Olympic javelin throwing champion and World Championship silver medalist Neeraj Chopra has certainly missed out on a medal for India as he withdrew himself late from CWG 2022 sustaining an injury.

Given Neeraj Chopra’s absence and the shooting, the responsibility will now fall upon the Indian wrestling team including Olympic champions Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Bajoran Punia, and Sakshi Malik, and a strong badminton team led by two-time Olympic champion PV Sindhu and world medalists such as Kidambi Srikant and Raksha to lead India to the medal table of Birmingham.
