A couple of days ago on Sunday, the Ligue 1 giants, i.e., Paris Saint Germain emerged victoriously on the Trophee des Champions, which is known as the infamous French Cup by defeating Nantes. This was the second trophy of Lionel Messi with his present club, and overall 41st in his illustrious career. With this trophy which got into the victory list of Messi, he came closer to Dani Alves’ world record of having the most number of trophies.
The former Barcelona player Dani Alves holds the number one position of having the most number of trophies which is 43, which counts both international as well as club competitions. Counting on this stat, Alves’s former teammate is now only two numbers away from touching his record and three away from breaking the same.
Will Lionel Messi be able to break the world-record?
Lionel Messi is now 35 years of age and at present he is delivering for Paris Saint Germain, and most of the fans are betting in for of the Argentine who have maximum chances to break the record of the Brazilian international. Though Alves is still playing at the age of 39 for UNAM Pumas. However, the club hasn’t won the LaLiga MX for more than 11 years, since 2011. In addition to that, they haven’t even won the cup since 1975, so it seems like the number 43 for Alves will not move forward.
Considering this face, fans are highly favoring Messi to beat those figures and in fact, it seems like a matter of time. Behind Dani Alves, and Lionel Messi remains three football superstars including Andres Iniesta has 37 trophies, Gerard Pique with 36 on his pocket, and last but not the least Cristiano Ronaldo having 34 trophies in his career till now.
