The 32-year-old Australian centre-back Aleksandar Jovanovic has signed a one-year deal with the ISL club Bengaluru FC.
Last Friday (22nd July), Bengaluru FC officially announced their new foreign signing the Australian centre-back Aleksandar Jovanovic. The upcoming 2022/23 season will be his first experience in Indian football as he will be the Blues’ Asian foreigner.
Apart from experiencing the Australian first division competition A-League, Jovanovic also experienced Serbian top league Serbian SuperLiga, Thailand’s highest domestic league Thai League 1, South Korean top-division football K League 1, the Chinese top-tier competition Chinese Super League and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s highest level of the domestic league (Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Aleksandar Jovanovic’s brief club career
The Sydney-born Jovanovic spent his youth football career for APIA Leichhardt. In 2006, he signed for the Australian club Parramatta Eagles which was the first professional signing in his senior career.
Jovanovic then moved to the Serbian SuperLiga club Vojvodina. Though he spent around three years for that team (2008-2011), he was mostly loaned to the other Serbian clubs FK Palic, FK Veternik and RFK Novi Sad.
In 2011, Jovanovic served for another Serbian club Hajduk Kola for a short time before moving to the Thailand club BEC Tero Sasana (presently known as Police Tero FC).
Jovanovic spent his first tenure in South Korea between 2013 and 2015. After serving for Suwon, he played for Jeju United during that period.
In 2016, Jovanovic experienced the Chinese Super League for Tianjin TEDA. In the next year, he returned to the South Korean club Jeju United. He left that South Korean club in January 2020 after completing his contract.
In 2020, Jovanovic had a short journey with the Bosnian club Zeljeznicar. In that same year, he returned to Australia and served for Macarthur till the end of his contract this year.
Now, the 32-year-old Australian footballer is ready to experience Indian football. He is likely to join Bengaluru FC later this month for pre-season preparations.

BFC have already signed Javi Hernandez, Roy Krishna, Faisal Ali, Amrit Gope, Hira Mondal and Prabir Das for the upcoming season. On Saturday (23rrd July), they announced four more new signings as Sudheer Kotikala, Ankith Padmanabhan, Clarence Fernandes and Felixson Fernandes.
