The Boring Company to build 34 Miles Underground Tunnel in Las Vegas

The underground transportation system from The Boring Company will be significantly larger than expected. The city has just granted permission to Elon Musk’s company, SpaceX, to bring its Vegas Loop underground transit system within city limits.

When it was officially approved by Clark County Commissioners, the Vegas Loop was meant to be a 29-mile underground network connecting 51 stations. The network will now span 34 miles and have 55 stations, including those that serve the Harry Reid International Airport and Allegiant Stadium.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, tunnelling in downtown Las Vegas might begin as early as 2023: “This is the second of eight steps that we will be taking. There is still a long way to go and much work to be done. But, if I had to guess on the spot, I’d say we’ll have machines in the ground by the end of the calendar year.” According to the publication, downtown stations include the Strat, Fremont Street Experience, Slotzilla attraction, Garage Mahal at the Circa Resort, and the Plaza Hotel.

Boring Company may build more stations in the future, each costing somewhere between $1.5 million and $20 million to build

A trip from downtown Fremont Street Experience to Reid International, according to Davis, would cost $12 and take about eight or nine minutes. Boring’s monorail system, however, must first receive a variety of approvals and design certifications before it can transport passengers to and from downtown Las Vegas.

According to The Verge, only 1.7 miles of the Vegas Loop are currently functioning beneath the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). More segments serving parts of the Resort Corridor should be operational by 2023, according to Steve Hill, CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
