A Ubisoft executive confirmed on a May 11 earnings call that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and Skull & Bones will all be released during the current fiscal year, limiting the timeframe in which gamers may expect their release dates to occur.
More specifically, it was said that all three are aiming for a release date in the second part of the fiscal year 2022-2023.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a current-gen exclusive game based on director James Cameron’s Avatar film franchise, the second of which will be released in December 2022. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is the follow-up to Ubisoft and Nintendo’s 2017 collaboration, and it features characters from the Super Mario and Rayman brands in tactical, turn-based combat.
Despite being in production for a long time, Skull & Bones remains the most ambiguous of the three. The multiplayer-focused pirate game was intended to capitalize on the success of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s maritime warfare, but production has been stalled for nearly a decade.
The fiscal year of Ubisoft will expire on March 31, 2023, with the midway point falling in early October 2022. More detailed information is still unavailable, but this timetable serves as reassurance that Skull & Bones will be released despite the delays.
Frontiers of Pandora, Sparks of Hope, and Skull & Bones are the publisher’s top three premium releases in terms of sales estimates, according to Ubisoft’s earnings report. The results report can be viewed on the Ubisoft website, with Video Games Chronicle stating that on the earnings call, chief corporate finance officer Frédérick Duguet stated that all three of the company’s games would be released in the second half of the fiscal year.
While half a fiscal year isn’t much of a timeline, it makes sense for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is expected to release around the same time as Avatar: The Way of Water. The sequel to the series will be released on December 16, 2022, and even though Frontiers of Pandora will tell a new story, the increased emphasis on the franchise will undoubtedly boost sales. The Mario + Rabbids sequel contains the most official footage of the three, validating the 2022 release date that has been advertised.
Despite the new assurance that Skull & Bones will be released soon, its release date remains the most uncertain of the three. Although a recent leak of gameplay footage indicates that it is nearing completion, the game has been delayed several times since it was first unveiled at E3 2017. The fact that Skull & Bones hasn’t been cancelled suggests that Ubisoft is committed to seeing it through, while Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope appear to be more likely to hit the release window in the second half of the fiscal year 2022-2023.
