Electronic Arts are bringing back the Lord of the Rings franchise with Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth

Electronic Arts, the publisher, has opted to return to the Middle-earth universe after a long absence. EA just announced that it has renewed its collaboration with Middle-earth Enterprises and will continue to work on The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth. EA Capital Games is currently working on this mobile game.

Little is known about the game at the time of writing, except that it is a turn-based free-to-play collectible RPG. The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth will feature collectible figures from both the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchises, but no release date has been set yet.

“We are incredibly excited to partner with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises on the next generation of mobile role-playing games,” said Malachi Boyle, vice president of mobile RPG for Electronic Arts. “The team is filled with fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and each day they bring their tremendous passion and talents together to deliver an authentic experience for players. The combination of high-fidelity graphics, cinematic animations, and stylized art immerses players in the fantasy of Middle-earth where they’ll go head-to-head with their favorite characters.”

EA has worked on The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth RTS games, thus the studio has some expertise with The Lord of the Rings titles. EA is investing extensively in the mobile gaming business, since the company has already released a mobile version of Apex Legends, and things are looking up for this new game from EA.
