    A cricketer’s life is prone to injuries at some point in his career. They have to be careful while they play the game since one major injury can affect their personal and professional life. Players use shields or other protection to minimize the risk margin as much as possible. In this article, let’s have a look at 4 times when cricketers wore a field shield.

    1. Warren Barnes in Super Smash T20 championship

    Warren Barnes was the first cricketer to set the trend when he, along with Rob Walters designed a protective gear for the bowlers to wear. He experimented with it during a Super Smash T20 championship match against the Northern Knights in 2017. The shield didn’t affect his performance as he picked 3 wickets in the game which increased his confidence being in a danger-free zone.

    2. Andrew Ellis while playing for Canterbury

    While representing Ellis while playing for Canterbury, was hit on his head by Auckland’s Jeet Raval and suffered a major injury. The ball struck his head and bounced off to go for a six. In Canterbury’s next season, he was seen wearing a helmet to avoid any kind of mishap.

    3. Deandra Dottin in Women’s World Cup 2017

    Deandra Dottin suffered an injury on her cheekbone and had to undergo surgery in order to recover from it. During a Women’s Big Bash League game, she collided with her Brisbane Heat teammate Laura Harris while stopping the ball from going over the ropes and in the process fractured her cheekbone. She did not recover completely but in 2017’s Women’s World Cup she wore a headgear throughout the tournament.

    4. Rishi Dhawan in IPL 2022

    Rishi Dhawan was wearing headgear during an IPL 2022 match against the Chennai Super Kings on 25th April, Monday. He also wore it during the practice session as was seen in the video shared by PBKS.
