Baldur’s Gate 3 will depart early access and be released in 2023, according to Larian Studios. During D&D Direct 2022, Larian revealed the news in a developer diary titled “the trip so far.”
While the video includes some gameplay footage, a tiefling cosplay, and a doctor who may or may not be a doctor, the most important announcement was that Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be released in early access in 2022, but will instead be released in 2023.
“By the Nine Hells, we’ve added a lot of great stuff already, and there’s more where that came from,” Larian said. “So, join us in early access on our journey to Baldur’s Gate 3, or come along in 2023 when the game releases.”
Swen Vincke, the director of Larian Studios, announced in February that 2022 would be the final full year of production, although he left some wiggle room in case it made it before our calendars switched to 2023. The possibility of a 2022 release has now vanished.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s Early Access edition was launched in October 2020 and included a tonne of material. “It could be worth waiting to experience the complete thing with fresh eyes,” we remarked in our Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access review. “It already boasts fascinating turn-based combat and some genuine storytelling genius.”
