Thor Ragnarok, by Taika Waititi, received huge critical praise after it had hit the theaters. Now, he’s back to direct the fourth edition of the Thor series. The movie picks up after Avengers: Endgame, which has left Thor Odinson (played by Chris Hemsworth) unmoored after the fall of his Kingdom Asgard, leaving earth in the hands of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
What do we know from Love and Thunder Trailer?
Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel redeem their roles as the Guardians of the Galaxy in the teaser, which kicks off with Thor as a member of the squad. Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and the director himself, Korg, will renew their roles in the MCU in the movie. The most interesting part of the teaser turns up in the concluding seconds when Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster is disclosed as the new Mighty Thor.
In the trailer, Thor jumps off on a path of self-discovery. “Those hands were once used for battle, now they’re but humble tools for peace,” he says as he drops off his new hammer Stormbreaker, and gazes out across the galaxy.
He departs from the Guardians of the Galaxy after a weight loss training montage and a new suit to discover his own path. Declaring his superhero days have been wrapped up, he sets out on a journey throughout the cosmos with Korg. The teaser shows him on a pirate ship kissing an unknown woman, Thompson’s Valkyrie ruling over New Asgard as its king, and a lightning-bolt wielding man who could either be the Greek hero Hercules or even Zeus.
Portman concludes the teaser by summoning Mjolnir, which has been reassembled magically and reveals her comic-exact mighty Thor costume.
What is the Movie Based on?
The movie is based on Jason Aaron’s critically praised run on the comic book The Mighty Thor, where Jane Foster, who dated and broke up with the superhero, assumed the superhero’s mantle when the sacred hammer Mjolnir looked upon him as unworthy and robbed him of his powers.
Portman plays the role of Jane again after his appearance in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. Reports suggested she left the series owing to some dissatisfaction with the pictures, especially with the replacement of the original director Patty Jenkins with Alan Taylor. Waititi, on the other hand, is said to have persuaded her to get back to MCU for the project.
Thor: Love and Thunder, hit the theaters in July 8th.
