The 2026 Commonwealth Games are all set to be held in Victoria and they desire to add men’s T20 cricket to the schedule. As per reports in Australian media, IPL and the BCCI will be striving hard to get into the plans. The CWG 2026 is going to be hosted from March to April and this is going to clash with the world’s most popular cricket tournament.
Cricket in Commonwealth Games 2026?
ICC is in favour of including Cricket in CWG 2026. As per the sources, the scheduling is going to be tough as it’s going to clash with IPL 2026.
The Australian state, Victoria will be the of CWG 2026. The Women’s T20 competition has already been included, the inclusion of Men’s T20 in the Games is still left. Cricket has again been listed as one of the 16 sports on the initial programme for Victoria.
The organizers of the game are currently in talks with ICC, and in the next few months, a decision will be made. Men’s cricket hasn’t been featured at Commonwealth games since the year 1998.
Wrestling, Shooting and Archery to be excluded in Commonwealth Games 2026?
Commonwealth Games is most probably going to ban the disciplines of shooting, archery and wrestling from the 2026 edition. The committee has decided to keep only 16 sports initially on the list of the Games programme and more sports will be added later part of the year. These disciplines were dropped because the host nation had to choose 22 strong lists of core sports.
