According to experts, Barcelona has signed an alleged agreement with Spotify. It mentions that the Catalan club can earn 70 million euros every season over the next four years. The brand will make an appearance in front of both male and female shirts along with their training kits. Spotify has also acquired the naming rights to the Camp Nou.
Though Barcelona has not yet confirmed the precise numbers, EFE claims that the club rightly expects this kind of agreement after the COVID-19 outbreak. Also, Lionel Messi’s departure from the Blaugrana has led to such an agreement. It is the first time that a brand has received the right to name Barcelona’s stadium that will be renovated in the recent future.
Post-COVID-19 deal of Barcelona in the absence of Messi
In all certainty, Barcelona is not likely to disclose the figures of the deal before the members’ assembly approves the agreement on April 3 2022. As mentioned earlier, this sort of deal between the two parties has stemmed from the crisis after the coronavirus pandemic.
Moreover, the departure of its marquee player, Messi also influenced the signing of the deal.Besides the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, Barcelona’s squad comprised Luis Suarez and Neymar when president Josep Maria Bartomeu closed a deal with Rakuten. In 2017, Rakuten became the sponsor that appeared on the front of Barcelona’s shirt and agreed to pay 55 million euros plus variables. In 2018, Beko started appearing on the left sleeve of the Barcelona shirt and training clothes in exchange for 19 million euros per year.
The same year Stanley sponsored the shirts of the women’s first team for around 3.5 million annually. Spotify has over 400 million monthly active users. This figure is quite close to the number of Barcelona fans all around the world. Therefore, these two reputed brands have joined together to create potential synergies.
