Various reports state that Arsenal is looking forward to bringing in Barcelona footballer Sergi Roberto on a free transfer. Roberto is also set to leave Camp Nou at the end of his contract which gets over this summer, and the Premier League club is going to take advantage of the situation. The Gunners added the midfielder earlier in their 2022 shopping list and are going to execute the process soon.
Sergi Roberto will be a free agent in a few agents following his expiration of the contract with Los Blaugrana and he can make a pre-contract agreement with Arsenal if he wishes to. However, on the other hand, Roberto is 30-year-old and signing him for the club wouldn’t be a great choice based on the current Arsenal project, as long-term plans can’t be initiated here. However, one or two older signings could certainly help provide some balance to the team especially if one could get them for free.
Fitness of Sergi Roberto
There’s one obstacle in this signing of Roberto which is his fitness. The midfielder’s fitness record holds him back in certain cases and he hasn’t even played a game since October concerning a couple of his injury setbacks.
Sources state that due to his injuries Roberto has missed 37 games this season and also missed another 10 in the earlier season. However keeping the injury issue aside, Sergi Roberto is one of the skillful midfielders who mainly plays in the central part, but can also work as a defensive midfielder along with full-back and a winger.
But also Arsenal has struggled a lot in getting rid of players who were picking up wages but aren’t appearing on the field. They would certainly not get backfilling that list again.
