Jorge Ortiz is all set to join hands with Sergio Lobera and the City Football group in China. Reports state that he has terminated his contract with FC Goa, and now he will go to the Chinese League One club Sichuan Jiuniu, which the City Football Group owns.
Ortiz had indeed been one of the best players for Goa, and they desired to extend the contract with him which was indeed very natural. However, the Spanish winger been secured a lucrative offer from China turned off the deal with Goa.
A club official of Goa told in an interview that they had no option left but to let him go, as he had a huge offer from China that hardly anyone from India can match. Ortiz himself requested the club to get him released so that he could join the Chinese club in the ongoing transfer window itself.
Jorge Ortiz through the transfer window
The transfer window in China opened on January 1, 2022, and was open till February 28. Ortiz terminated his contract with his former club before February 28, 2022, hence he will sign through the transfer window as a free player.
Sources also state that Sichuan Jiuniu might sign Jorge Ortiz on a two-year contract, but hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Also, the head coach of the Chinese club is now Sergio Lobera who was previously with the ISL club Mumbai City FC.
Performance by the Spaniard
The Spaniard has been in a good form, which we saw in him playing for Goa this season. In the current campaign, he was the highest goal scorer as well as performed most assists for Goa, which is 8 and 15 respectively. Considering his massive form, Jorge Ortiz is expected to keep it up playing for Sichuan Jiuniu as well.
