    Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar Passes Away at 92

    The iconic Indian singer, Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last this Sunday, at 92. The news came as a shock to the countrymen as no one could digest the demise of the legendary singer, who earned sky-high popularity because of her gifted magical voice and her spectacular contribution to the music industry.

    She passed away Sunday morning at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai due to multiple organ failures. Lata Mangeshkar received a state funeral and Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew to Mumbai from Delhi to pay his last tribute to the ever-remembering legend.

    Lata Mangeshkar: Her Achievements

    The “Nightingale of India”, also addressed as the “Melody Queen”, Lata Mangeshkar was a significant name in the music industry over the tenure of eight decades. The songs of this legendary playback singer were filled with enchanting emotion. Singing more than 5,000 songs in over a thousand Bollywood and regional language movies, she had been a legend to the truest sense. She lent her voice to films featuring the then superstars Madhubala, Meena Kumari, and even sang for modern-day divas like Kareena Kapoor.

    All through her career, she collaborated with almost all the iconic music composers including Naushad, Madan Mohan, SD Burman, RD Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, and A.R. Rahman. She achieved tons of awards for singing, establishing her “saint-like” figure in the music industry.

    Lata Mangeshkar’s popularity wasn’t only restricted to India, rather she was a renowned name in many western countries too.

    She received the “Padma Bhushan” in 1969, followed by the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989 and the Padma Vibhushan in 199. In 2001, Lata Mangeshkar was awarded the “Bharat Ratna”, India’s greatest civilian honor. The French government honored her with its highest civilian award “Officier de la Legion d’Honneur” in 2007.

    A phenomenal singer and musical personality, Lata Mangeshkar will ever live in the hearts of people and her voice will ever enchant the earbuds of billions. As long as music lives, so long will live the legend!
