    Real Madrid start their new year with a loss against Getafe

    Real Madrid who is having a phenomenal season in 2021, at the La Liga, sitting at the top of the points table, started their new year of 2022, with a loss against Getafe, who are sitting at 16th of the same league. The Spanish capitals kicked off their new year on Sunday, and unfortunately lost their 15th game undefeated streak, as the hosts emerged victoriously by a score of 1-0.

    The Match

    Initially, Real Madrid had a good start in the match. However, Getafe was in control too, especially in the opening moments. The efficiency of Getafe was very clear when Real Madrid in the first 13 minutes, lose possession for a total of 14 times.

    Eventually, Carlo Ancelotti’s team struggled to find their groove, and consequently a mistake initiated by Eder Militao, allowed Enes Unal for Getafe the score the first goal for his team in the 9th minute. Fortunately, Getafe didn’t get a 2-0 lead, as consequences for that were aroused when a miscue in Madrid’s defence line almost allowed Nemanja Maksimovic to register another one.

    Though Real Madrid tried their best by performing some long-range shorts including Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, however, was not able to find the equalizer. Real Madrid had to dominate stats against their opposition, which included 74% of possession with Getafe 26%, 724 passes were done by Madrid, whereas 262 by Getafe, and Madrid has a pass accuracy of 87% and their opposition had 69%.

    Despite the efforts made by Real Madrid, they couldn’t hold their long undefeated streak which eventually came to an end. Getafe on the other hand had a very good win against the La Liga giants, securing 3 more points in the top tier of Spanish football and giving Madrid their second loss of the present campaign.
