Three PSG players, including Lionel Messi, have tested positive for Covid-19

Messi, an Argentina international, joined PSG from his boyhood club Barcelona in August, and the 34-year-old has six goals in 16 outings for the Parisian club in all competitions.

Current Conditions

In a statement confirming the recent developments, PSG said, “The 4 players that tested positive for Covid-19 are Leo Messi, Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico, and Nathan Bitumazala. They are currently in isolation and are subject to the appropriate health protocol”. On December 22, Messi last appeared for PSG in a Ligue 1 match against FC Lorient, which ended in a 1-1 tie.

France reported 219,126 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in 24 hours on Saturday, the fourth day in a row that the country has recorded more than 200,000 cases.

More than 10 million cases have been reported in France, India, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Russia. PSG leads Ligue 1 with 46 points after 19 games, 13 points ahead of Nice in second place. On Monday, they will travel to Vannes, a third-tier team, for a round-of-32 match in the French Cup.

His Stats after Joining PSG

PSG, on the other hand, is now atop the Ligue 1 2021-22 points standings, having won 14, drawn four, and lost one of their 19 games this season. Meanwhile, since joining the French club in the Summer Transfer Window of 2021, Messi has scored six goals for his new side. Messi has only scored one goal in 11 Ligue 1 appearances, but he has five goals in five UEFA Champions League appearances in 2021-22.

He will now be expected to return from the illness and rejoin the PSG in time for the season’s action-packed schedule. PSG will meet Lyon in their next Ligue 1 match on January 10 after defeating Vannes in the Coupe de France on Monday. PSG had previously moved to the French Cup Round of 32 after beating SC Feignies 0-3 in the Round of 64 on December 20.
