Despite the COVID19 situation going on all over the world, there have hardly been any clubs seen who have sacrificed one or two players from the playing 11 in the last year. However, an exception to that happened on Saturday night in Portugal, when Belenenses SAD locked horns against the Premiera Liga leaders Benfica with only nine players due to the unavailability of the rest.
The consequence of playing with only 9 players didn’t go well, as Benfica gained victory over their opposition by a score of 7-0, with all the goals coming before half-time. B-SAD with no options available played with a formation of 4:4:1. Things didn’t work out well for B-SAD as expected.
Belenenses SAD certainly had bad luck starting from missing out on some players and gifting Benfica an early lead on the match which was an own goal by Eduardo Kau. Though it didn’t end here. Soon in the 14th minute, Haris Seferovic for Benfica scored another goal in the 14th minute, making it 2-0. Next, in the 27th minute, Julian Weighl netted one more making it 3-0, and in the 39th minute, Haris Seferovic scored a goal from penalty making it impossible for B-SAD to come back.
Though the nightmare for B-SAD didn’t end here, as the worst thing was yet to happen. The storm started from the 32nd minute when Darwin Nunez scored his first goal of the match and 5th for Benfica. Soon on the 34th minute, he scored another and before halftime with just 1 minute left, he finished his hat-trick in the 45th minute.
