ICC T20 World Cup 2021- Key Takeaways for this Tournament

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 concluded with the Aussies lifting their maiden cup in the shortest format of cricket. They defeated the Black Cups in the final by 8 wickets with 7 balls left. Here are the key takeaways from the tournament.

World Gets a New T20 Champion: Sixth Different Side to Win the Contest

Australia has marked its name in the T20 World Cup win list as the sixth different side. The winners in the previous editions were India (2008), Pakistan (2009), England (2010), West Indies (2012, 2014), Sri Lanka (2016).

Australia’s Unbeaten Streak Against New Zealand in ICC Events

Australia successfully continues its unbeaten streak against the Black Caps in the ICC event, after registering the win in the finals. Their previous wins were in the following encounters: 1996 World Cup final, 2006 Champions Trophy final, 2009 Champions Trophy Final and 2015 World Cup.

Pakistan Was in Exceptionally Brilliant Form Throughout the Tournament

Pakistan set the tournament on fire with their massive form. The story could have been different if they could hold their nerves against New Zealand in the semi-finals. Though they dropped off from the tournament before the finals, they were the only unbeaten side in the Super 12 stage.

An Unsatisfactory Performance from Team India

India entered the tournaments as ‘favourites’ for many cricketing legends and experts. However, their campaign didn’t go up to the mark. Their one-sided defeat against Pakistan and New Zealand closed the doors to reach the knockouts even after launching comfortable wins against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia.

Since 2012, it’s been the first time that they couldn’t make it to the knockouts. Also, with the win against Namibia, Virat Kohli’s reign as the India T-20 captain concluded, as announced by the 33-year old star batsman, earlier.
