The Premier League is one of, if not the most, fiercely competitive leagues in the world. The English league system’s first division features some of the best players from across the world. The clubs’ financial clout allows them to bring in the top players in the world to try to help their teams succeed.
As a result, consistently doing well in the league is a huge challenge. While building a name for yourself as a player is impressive, doing so consistently is a different story. The prestigious Player of the Month (POTM) award is given to the player who performs very well over a month.
Intriguingly, Jurgen Klinsmann of Tottenham Hotspur received the award for the first time in 1994. In 2020, Bruno Fernandes made history by becoming the first player to win the award four times in a calendar year.
Here are the top five Premier League players with the most Player of the Month wins:
Cristiano Ronaldo: 5 times
Cristiano Ronaldo returned to his former club Manchester United for a second spell during the summer transfer window of 2021. At 36 years old, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has returned to the Premier League. He didn’t waste any time settling in and scored a brace on his second debut to make an immediate impact.
In September 2021, Ronaldo was named Player of the Month for the sixth time in his career. In November 2006, December 2006, January 2008, and March 2008, he won it for the fourth time. The former Real Madrid star has the opportunity to increase his total and climb the rankings.
Robin van Persie: 5 times
Robin van Persie is widely regarded as one of the most clinical strikers in Premier League history. He spent seven seasons with Arsenal but only once won the Premier League, with Manchester United. As a professional footballer, the former Netherlands forward is now retired. Van Persie was also the five-time winner of the Player of the Month award.
In November 2005, October 2009, October 2011, December 2012, and April 2013, he received the honor. The player’s performance in the 2012/13 season was very excellent. He earned the POTM award twice with the Red Devils at the time, in addition to winning the league and Golden Boot.
Harry Kane: 6 times
Harry Kane, the all-time leading goalscorer for Tottenham Hotspur, is the next player on the list. In his career, the Englishman has earned the Player of the Month accolade six times. With 167 goals, the England captain is the seventh-highest goalscorer in Premier League history.
In January 2015, February 2015, March 2016, February 2017, September 2017, and December 2017, Harry Kane was named Player of the Month. The three-time Golden Boot winner, on the other hand, has never won the Premier League crown, which he has yet to achieve.
Steven Gerrard: 6 times
Steven Gerrard, a Liverpool star and former captain, has won the Player of the Month award six times. He is the lone midfielder on the list, and he is tied with Kane for the most Englishmen. In March 2001, March 2003, December 2004, April 2006, April 2009, and March 2014, Gerrard received the award.
With 121 goals, Gerrard is the second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League. He is second only to fellow countryman Frank Lampard, who has 177 goals to his name. Gerrard never won the Premier League with Liverpool, although he did assist them to win the UEFA Champions League in 2004/05.

Sergio Aguero has the most Player of the Month accolades of any player in the league. After a highly successful tenure with Manchester City, the former striker has now joined FC Barcelona.
