After suffering a blow against Real Madrid, Barcelona will be without key player AnsuFati for their encounter against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday evening. The club has confirmed the news, which comes as the 18-year-injury old’s problems continue.
Ahead of the game, Barcelona tweeted: “The first team player AnsuFati has pain in his right knee. He is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.”
AnsuFati was unable to make an impression in the Clasico defeat to Real Madrid last Sunday and was replaced by Sergio Aguero in the 73rd minute. He is said to have been knocked out after colliding with David Alaba.
The situation was played down by Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman, who called described the injury as “small annoyances” during his press conference, suggesting that for now Ansu “has to rest.”
Due to the absence of AnsuFati versus Rayo, Memphis Depay, Philippe Coutinho, and Sergio Aguero could start as a front three.
Remember that he had a knee ailment in his other knee, the left one, that kept him out for ten months. In September, Ansu made his comeback after nearly a year away, scoring against Levante in his first game back.
Last weekend, the Spain international scored against Valencia. He signed a new contract with the club that runs through 2027 and has a €1 billion release clause.
Fati made his comeback following a 10-month knee injury layoff, during which he suffered several setbacks, in Barca’s 3-0 victory over Levante on September 26. The juvenile striker scored in that game and has appeared five more times in all competitions this season, with his lone other goal coming against Valencia ten days ago.
Since his debut 26 months ago, he has scored 15 goals in 49 appearances for the Catalan giants in all competitions, a number equaled only by Luis Suarez (21), Antoine Griezmann (35), and Lionel Messi (69), none of whom are currently at the club.
For the encounter against Vallecano, Koeman will be missing fellow strikers Ousmane Dembele and Martin Braithwaite, as well as Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Ronald Araujo, who are all injured. Barca is currently tenth in LaLiga, with 15 goals after nine games, their lowest total since 2003-04, when they scored 11 times.
