Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo’s former striking partner, has had a fresh lease on life since he departed from Real Madrid. The Frenchman has been allowed to fully display his remarkable skill set now that he is no longer the foil for the Portuguese.
It’s no surprise that the goals keep coming and Benzema remains a crucial cog in Carlo Ancelotti’s Los Blanco’s wheel.
About the French Player
Karim Mostafa Benzema is a French striker who currently plays for Real Madrid and the France national team. Benzema is recognized as one of the top players in the world due to his aerial ability, work rate, playmaking, and finishing.
Benzema, who was born in Lyon to Algerian parents, began his senior career in 2005 with Olympique Lyonnais, where he contributed irregularly to three Ligue 1 titles. After a shaky start in his first season, Benzema rose to prominence at Real Madrid, winning thirteen championships and becoming the club’s sixth all-time top goalscorer and assist provider.
In just ten games this season, he’s already scored ten goals and added seven assists. According to L’Equipe, his placement in the final 30 for France Football’s Ballon d’Or award was a foregone conclusion due to his long-term performance. Even though time may be running out for him, the centre-forward remains hopeful of earning the accolade.
His Dream of Ballon d’Or Win
“I’ve been dreaming of winning the Ballon d’Or since I was a kid, it’s a dream that all of us footballers have,” he said to AS, cited by getting French Football News.
“It’s true that the most important thing is the team, but when you help your team win, when you play well and score lots of goals, the next thing to have in mind is the Ballon d’Or.
“So I’m going to do everything I can and work as hard as possible to hopefully, one day, win it and achieve this dream I’ve had since I was a kid.”
You can never say never in football, and Benzema is in the running for the top individual award despite displaying the qualities that have often won Real Madrid a game on his own.
