Sergio Lobera steps down as Mumbai City FC’s head coach, to carry forward his coaching journey with City Football Group (CFG). The team won the Indian Super League under his mentorship the last season. The club has announced Des Bunckingam as the replacement of Lobera. He will be joining from the CFG-owned A-League titleholders Melbourne City FC.

Des will be shaking hands with the Islanders for a two-year contract before the 2021-22 season sets in. After Sergio Lobera entered the club on ’20 October, he led the club to the most precious and successful campaign ever. The club became the first-ever in the league history to hold both the ISL trophy and ISL league winner’s shield. After spending an amazing tenure here in India, Lobera will be seeing off the country to join CFG and start working on a new challenge.
Who’s Des Buckingham?
Englishman Des Bunckingam was the assistant coach to Patrick Kisnorbo in Melbourne City FC. He had significant contributions behind the club holding A-League Premiership and Championship double. His role has been tremendous both on and off the pitch. In the 202-21 season, Des took charge of the team thrice during Kisnorbo’s absence and set the perfect winning record.
